Who We Are
We don't own the land, we borrow it from our children. -Unknown
For over 100 years, our family has been raising cattle on the pristine plains of Southeastern Colorado. In 1888 my great-grand-parents J.J. and Catherine Trainor, came to Colorado from Ontario, Canada with their nine children in search of a better life. J.J. established his open range headquarters on the ranch around 1892. Later, my grandfather, W.J. Trainor, homesteaded on that parcel in 1910, and he extended the ranch to its present size in 1938. My father, Frank Trainor, took over the ranch in 1942, and I took over upon his death in 1968. My son, Nick, and I continue the tradition established by the generations preceding us. Nick is a masters graduate from CSU and has added new range science to our ranch operations, including our environmentally friendly grazing practices that protect water quality, prevent soil erosion, and protect wildlife habitat.
Today, like back then, everything we do is about raising the best beef possible. Fortunately, we have found that raising cattle in an old-fashioned and stress-free way is not only better and more humane for the cattle, but creates the best tasting beef.
We believe your customers want a healthy, naturally-produced, humane and tasty product. Our premium-cut ground beef is superior to the products of the giant factory farms, and packers who control 80% of the US beef supply by using hormones, antibiotics, chemicals and inhumane processes. Our cattle mature naturally over 24 months, not chemically in 14 months.
